Abstract	:	Golconda (Golkońd’ā), originally a hill fort near the present-day city of Hyderabad, was the first capital city of the eponymous Golconda sultanate, also known as the Quṭb Shāhī sultanate. Ceded by the raja of Warangal to the Bahmanī sultan Muḥammad I (r. 759–76/1358–75) in 764/1363, Golconda became the capital of the province (ṭaraf ) of Tilangāna (located in part of the present-day states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) in 901/1496, when Sulṭān Qulī Quṭb al-Mulk (d. 950/1543) was made governor of
