Abstract	:	Muʾayyad al-Dīn Ibn al-Alqamī (d. 657/1259) was a scholar and official in the ʿAbbāsid court during the first half of the seventh/thirteenth century. A famous thinker, calligrapher, and book collector, he served as vizier for the last ʿAbbāsid caliph, al-Mustaʿṣim bi-llāh (r. 640–56/1247–58), for fourteen years. His family originally came from the Khurāsān region of Persia. This origin is not borne out in his name, rather his name derives from his grandfather who helped dig the Alqamī canal by the lower
