Abstract : The main objective of this thesis is to develop a system to visualize city data problems such as air pollution, sea level rising, and Pandemic data in 3D on smartphones. The proposed method is mainly focused on three-dimensional polygons plotted on terrain maps on Augmented Reality. The proposed system has been implemented on the iOS platform using Unity and Xcode development software using Mapbox Software Development Kit (SDK). All the datasets are used for visualization hosted on the Mapbox Studio as Tileset. A tileset is a collection of raster or vector data broken up into a uniform grid of square tiles of 22 preset zoom levels. GeoJSON [2] and Shapefile are used to create Tileset on Mapbox Studio. For this research, a custom dataset (GeoJSON and Shapefile [3]) is prepared for each city problem and Pandemic event – COVID 19. GeoJSON datasets are created on python using the GeoPandas[4] library. The GeoJSON file is created on python and then uploaded to Mapbox Studio to create tileset. The Unity and Xcode software take advantage of ARKit[7] and Mapbox SDK to render maps and polygons on the real world. ARKit combines iOS device camera and motion features to produce augmented reality experience. The user needs a flat surface such as a tabletop or floor to experience augmented reality. Three-dimensional polygons are populated on a three-dimensional map on a flat surface or tabletop. Users can interact with content on-screen by tapping, pinch to zoom, and other multi gestures.
