Abstract	:	In mass media reports as well as in general surveys of Islam there are a lot of prejudices about Jihäd which were not treated and analysed properly in the scholarly literature so far. According to the common opinion the Prophet would have regulated the Jihäd as Holy War once and for all in an unequivocal way. The unbiased analysis does not support this opinion. The Prophet's standpoint underwent several phases on the one hand and showed up variegated elements in the same time, on the other, and, moreover, He was always inclined to reasonable bilateral agreement.
