The growth of African immigration to France at the end of the twentieth century wrought cultural change in this epicenter of the avant-garde in European art and music. If one visits the record stores, clubs, and restaurants of contemporary Paris, one would find the influence of France's former colonies at work. James Winders presents the story of African immigrants to France as a unique chapter in the long history of the reception accorded expatriate artists in Paris. The author demonstrates that France's newest immigrants are making marks in French culture that will not be erased.--Publisher.
