This text provides a critical examination of literacy practices on the World Wide Web, including the authoring, designing, reading, analyzing, and interpreting of texts. The international contributors challenge the premise that the Web forms a global literacy environment in which people from all over the world communicate with one another without being affected by the significant barriers posed by geopolitical location, language, culture, and everyday social practices. This is an exploration which reveals understandings of literacy practices within the rapidly changing context of new technologies.
