A story about father-son relationships and the many ways of being a man. Nothing much happens in the coal town, except for fights at the pub. Then one night a young girl is found dead by the river, and every man comes under suspicion: Eddie and his brother Larry, their embittered dad, the secretive school teacher, even the powerful mayor. People can't look each other in the eye; anyone could be a murderer. The policeman knows he must move fast, before the miners react, but it's Eddie's father who takes the law into his own hands.
