"This guide is divided into three parts. Part 1 examines the pharmacology of drugs, the effect of drugs on the body (pharmacodynamics) and the body on the drugs (pharmacokinetics), and explains how adverse reactions can arise from these processes. Three client groups where adverse effects are particularly prevalent - the child, pregnant women and their foetuses and the elderly - are then considered, and this is followed by a systems approach to some of the problems that can arise." "Part 2 looks at the art of putting scientific knowledge into action through an examination of nurse administration and prescribing, drug development, the use of complementary therapies and the issues of patient compliance and empowerment.
