Abstract : A collection of 44 reprinted papers written by Paul Roberts, who has been a professor at the University of Newcastle and UCLA, and published in journals between 1959 and 1996 in the areas of geomagnetism and dynamos, fluid mechanics, hydromagnetism, superfluidity, and mixed phase regions. Among the specific topics are a three-dimensional kinematic dynamo, ideal instabilities in rapidly rotating MHD systems with critical layers, calculation of the static healing length in helium, and the life cycle of a mush. Roberts recounts his life work in an opening commentary on his publication list. No index is provided. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
