Abstract : The negative experience of the Muslim Ummah in the 19th and 20th centuries has provoked the adoption of various terms aimed at tackling the contemporary challenges threatening the survival of Islamic supremacy in modern time. The terms include: Tajdīd, Sahwah and Harakat. With the exception of Tajdīd, the two other terms are products of current craving of Muslims to return Islam to its rightful position. It is conspicuously known that the Muslim Brotherhood and current Salafiyyah groups constitute the vanguard and hardliner of Islamic revivalism in contemporary time. Despite belonging to the cadre of revivalist Dacwah approach, the two groups are at loggerheads over the best patterns for addressing the current problems of the Ummah. Against this background, the study intends to compare the revivalist approach, development and impact of Salafiyyah and Brotherhood oriented groups on the Muslims in Yorubaland of Nigeria. One of the objectives of the study is to explore, compare and analyze the teachings, development and impact of the two groups on Muslims in Yorubaland. The study involves both library and field research and adopts historical, descriptive survey and analytic methodologies. The instruments used in collating information were literature on the discourse, internet sources, facebook/whatsapp platforms, oral interview, visitation, audio/video recorded lectures and personal experiences. Some of the findings of the research were enumerated as follows: 1. Both trends constitute the greatest manifestation of Islamic revivalism in the 20th century; 2. The current Wahhābi-Salafiyyah is not a new phenomenon in the history of Islamic scholarship; it toes the line of ancient Muhaddithūn in formative stage of Islam; 3. Both groups belong to the camp of orthodox Islam, though with varying tendencies in literalism and rationalism; 4. The apparent deficiencies in the methodology of current Salafiyyah are literalism, extremism, disintegration and stagnancy, while those of Muslim Brotherhood are partisanship, giving priority to political struggle and blind followership to the leadership of the Jamācah; 5. The thought of both groups does not condone terrorism and Takfīr, but the misconception of their literature has bred secessionist groups that flag bear the two trends; 6. The advent of the two groups to Yorubaland dates back to the 70s with uniform title of Ahlu-Sunnah up till the beginning of 21st century; 7. The factions of Salafiyyah in Yorubaland are the Dakātirah, Madākhilah, Jabatiyyah and intermediate factions; 8. The Muslim Brotherhood oriented organizations in Yorubaland are classified into the affiliate and influenced groups; 9. The major aspects where the two groups have impacted in Yorubaland are Muslim organization, Islamic orientation, scholarship, Madāris, economic and social services, religious rivalry and polemics; and 10. The international politics have contributed more to the hostile relation among various Salafiyyah factions and between the Muslim Brotherhood oriented organizations and the narrow-minded Salafiyyah youths in Yorubaland. The study recommends that difference in the area of revivalist specialization of the two groups should be seen as complementary manifestation as against the rivalry mentality often displayed by their adherents. The Muslim youths in Yorubaland are also cautioned against the mis-application of foreign verdicts to their own peculiar society. The government is also implored to create regulatory commission for religious operation and preaching. This will curb the explosion of smokes screen of religious war lurking between the Salafiyyah and Brotherhood oriented groups in Yorubaland and elsewhere.
