Abstract	:	The subject of this thesis is the story of Noah and the Great Flood. It presents the story in light of the Theory of Sources due to the presence of different narrations and multiple sources. Then, the thesis compares the story in hand to that mentioned in the Holy Quran. Firstly, this thesis discusses the history of the theory of sources of Torah. In addition, this thesis reviews the current sources of the Torah which are the “Yahwist”, the “Elohist”, the “Deuteronomistic/ Pentateuch” and finally the “Priestly” and then presents the characteristics of each source. Secondly, the thesis also discusses the story of the Great Flood in the literature of Mesopotamia that is available in two novels: the Sumerian novel (Zio-Sedra) and the Babylonian novel found in the eleventh tablet of the epic of Gilgamesh. The Babylonian novel is considered one of the most important Babylonia texts that address the story of the Great Flood as it was found preserved in its full form with no loss or distortion. Lastly, the thesis discusses the story of Noah and the Great Flood as mentioned in the Holy Quran which focused on Noah’s call to his people and the events related to that and then the punishment that was brought upon them by the flood. Moreover, the thesis illustrates both the similarities and differences between the story of Noah and the Great Flood as narrated in the Torah and the Holy Quran. It also presents a comparison between the narrations of Torah’s Elohist and Yahwist sources and the narration of the Holy Quran. The thesis then concludes that the “Priestly” narration of the Story of Noah and the Great Flood is the closest to that of the Holy Quran.
