Abstract : This study examines the marital experiences of American-born South Asian Muslim women in interracial marriages of their choosing. This study reflects on the lived experiences of eight American South Asian Muslim women’s bicultural identities and their traditional specific cultural practices of endogamous and arranged marriages and modern Western cultural practices of exogamous and interracial marriages. There is a lack of literature examining the marital experiences of American-born South Asian Muslim women. Conventional content analysis was utilized to investigate the experience of South Asian Muslim women in interracial marriages. Interviews were conducted remotely via video and/or phone chat. Twelve major themes were discovered with the major theme being that all romantic relationships were kept secret from parents/families. Existing literature on the history of Muslims in America, together with South Asian and Muslim identity are examined. Clinical implications are discussed and future directions are recommended.
