Abstract
:
Bangladesh is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change. In areas like Bangladesh that are marked by frequent disasters and environmental disruptions, leading to displacement and social marginalization, schools play important immediate, intermediate, and long-term roles. They provide shelter for communities during floods and cyclones, teach about and deliver disaster warnings, and prepare children for future disasters. Recognizing and recounting the pivotal role of schools in disaster preparedness and mitigation, international bodies and national governments began to develop programs in disaster education intended to contribute to children’s protection from the impacts of disaster. This study utilizes a vertical case study approach to examine how disaster-affected schools address vulnerability and resilience through educational practices and how children experience vulnerability and manifest resilience in their daily lives.
