Abstract : This manual distinguishes the vast opportunities aiding international drug treatment initiatives in war-torn countries like Afghanistan. As the world’s leading producer and manufacturer of opium and cannabis, illicit drug usage among the poor and middle class continues to soar and fuel uncontrollable addiction rates. In a 2010 pilot study backed by Medecins du Monde, researchers observed the effects of a methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) program in Afghanistan, which was the inspiration for this study.
