Abstract : Children require continuous knowledge and interactions with the surrounding environment to stimulate learning and increase their potential to retain information. Young children, ages 3 to 9, are in a vulnerable stage of growth and development when learning is critical to their well-being. Therefore, it is necessary that they are stimulated in a variety of ways that include classroom education and other experiences that support the acquisition of new forms of knowledge. This study examined the benefits of children’s participation in children’s museum settings, the types of information and knowledge acquired by children as they interact with museum exhibits, and the museums’ facilitation and connection to children’s classroom learning. An additional purpose of this study was to identify high-quality components of children’s learning experiences in children’s museums with the intention of bringing this information back to the Early Childhood educational system in Saudi Arabia for possible replication of children’s museums as additional sources for learning. The study showed that the environment of the museums is not only beneficial in the learning and training of children, but also beneficial for increasing the interaction of children with each other as well as with the items in the museums. It has also been found that the museums can help in providing the knowledge about the environment, social interaction, and the different phases of life, such as life in schools. Eventually, children’s museums can connect at-home learning to at-school learning. In the future, the findings of this study could help in optimizing performance as, for example, in improving the welcoming place of the museums, and in increasing the interaction of museums with colleges, hospitals, and libraries. The study also highly recommends the involvement of experts and community members along with the generation of vision in the development of museums.
