Abstract : The goal of this study was to examine ESL teachers’ perceptions of the unique features of ASELLs’ English writing and presence in writing classes and how ESL teachers address ASELLs’ writing issues. Data were collected from interviews with seven ESL instructors as well as follow-up questions and member checking. Four main themes with their subthemes were identified. The findings of this study offer suggestions and insights for ESL instructors with ASELLs in their writing courses. The participants highlighted ASELLs’ strengths and areas for additional support, offered effective writing teaching strategies, and suggested tips for working with this group of learners.
