Abstract : In this study, it is aimed to determine whether the knowledge of grammar terms of the students studying in German Teaching Department differs according to various factors or not. The universe of the study consists of 1, 2, 3 and 4th-grade students studying in German Teaching Department of Marmara University. The sample consists of 121 students in total, 88 of which are girls, 31 of which are boys and 2 people have not specified their gender, studying in 1, 2, 3 and 4th grade of German Teaching Department of Marmara University during the spring semester in the academic year of 2018-2019. In the research, ‘Student Questionnaire Form’ created by the researcher and ‘Student Test’ to evaluate participants’ knowledge of German grammar terms were used as a data collection tool. ‘Scanning Model’ was used in the study. The sample was determined by the method of ‘Simple Random Sampling’. The data were analysed in SPSS 15.0 program and the results reached were tabulated according to the purposes of the research. This was used in the examination of differentiation due to variables and multiplex group comparisons, t-Test was used in duplex group comparisons and Kruskal Wallis Test was used in multiplex group comparisons. According to the test results covering the A1, A2, B1 and B2 levels, it was observed that German teacher candidates, who are expected to have comprehensive knowledge of C1 level in German, which is one of the objectives of the program when graduating from the department, have significant deficiencies in the knowledge of German Grammar Terms. It was also observed that there is a significant relationship between the knowledge of grammar terms of prospective German teachers and various factors which they have. According to the relevant results, it was observed that 1st-grade students compared to other grades, those who have been learning German for 10 year compared to those who have been learning German for a short time, those who learn German in Germany has received higher grades than those learned in Turkey, those who do not study at the University Preparatory Department have higher grades than those who do, those who state that German syllabus prepares them to their profession in terms of grammar compared to those, who think otherwise, have higher marks. In addition, it was determined that prior knowledge on either Turkish or German grammar of a clear majority of prospective teachers training in either Germany or Turkey is insufficient and they don’t have fulfilling and equal backgrounds. With the findings, it was aimed to determine the pre-service German teachers' deficiencies in terms of German Grammar. Accordingly, it was aimed to create self-awareness among students and to give information about their needs and deficiencies in the current situation. In addition, these findings are thought to be helpful in education and training practices. The recommendations at the end of the study were created and developed in this direction.
