Abstract	:	Abdul Rahman , usually known as “the Tunku ,” or “the Prince,” (1902–90) was the seventh son of the sultan of the Malay state of Kedah and his Thai wife. Abdul Rahman pursued his schooling in Kedah, Bangkok, and Cambridge (1922–5), where he acquired the reputation of being a playboy. He gained only a general degree but, after several more attempts, he qualified as a lawyer in London. He returned to Malaya at the outbreak of World War II.
