Abstract	:	Abdurrahman Şeref (ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Şeref, 1269–1343/1853–1925) was born in Istanbul, the son of Hasan (Ḥasan) Efendi, an accounting officer at Tophane. He graduated from the lycée of Galatasaray in 1290/1873 and worked as the director of the Mekteb-i Mülkiye-i Şahane (Imperial School of Civil Service) from 1295–1311/1878–1894. He later served as director of Galatasaray Lycée (1311–1326/1894–1908), and during the Second Constitutional period, he became Maarif Nazırı (minister of education) and president of the Meclis-i Ayan (Chamber
