Abstract : Abū l-Fatḥ Khān Zand (1169–1201/1755 or 1756–87), the eldest surviving son of Karīm Khān Zand (r. c.1164-93/1751–79), briefly succeeded his father as nominal ruler of Iran for seventy days in 1193/1779. His father had been the leader of his tribal contingent in the army of Nādir Shāh Afshār (r. 1148–60/1736–47) and founded the Zand dynasty (Table 1) soon after Nādir’s assassination.
