Abstract	:	Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar b. Yaḥyā al-Hintātī (c. 482–571/1090–1175 or 1176) was a chief architect of the Almohad (al-Muwaḥḥidūn) empire and a close companion of the Mahdī of the Almohads, Ibn Tūmart, and his successors. His original Berber name was Faskāt ū-Mzāl Īntī. Ibn Tūmart changed his name to Abū Ḥafṣ, the name borne by one of the Companions of the prophet Muḥammad. Abū Ḥafṣ had established his family as one that was consistently loyal to the original Almohad unitarian doctrine (tawḥīd) of Ibn Tūmart.
