Abstract : Abū Tāshufīn I b. Abī Ḥammū (d. 737/1337) was the fifth sovereign of the ʿAbd al-Wādid dynasty of North Africa. His accession was proclaimed on 23 Jumādā I 718/23 July 1318, after he had assassinated his father, Abū Ḥammū Mūsā. Abū Tāshufīn I spent his reign cultivating the arts in his capital, Tilimsān (Tlemcen), and intriguing against the neighbouring Ḥafṣid caliphate in Tunis. He attacked Bijāya (Bougie) several times. In 735/1335, the Ḥafṣids turned his strategy against him, inciting tribal revolts in ʿAbd al-Wādid lands
