Abstract	:	Adile Sultan (ʿĀdile Sulṭān, 1241–1316/1826–99), daughter of Sultan Mahmud II (Sulṭān Maḥmūd II) and Zernigar (Zernigār) Hanım, was a renowned Ottoman poet, whose divan ( dīvān) gave her a unique place among the women of the Ottoman dynasty. Adile Sultan was highly educated, having been given private lessons in religion, literature, and calligraphy by famous teachers of her time. In 1261/1845, she was married to Tophane Müşiri Mehmed Ali Paşa (Topkhāne Müshiri Meḥmed ʿAlī Pasha). The wedding ceremony was magnificent and lasted for a week. An
