Abstract	:	Ahmed Paşa (Aḥmed Pasha, Humbaracıbaşı (“Commander of the Bombardiers”) (1675–1747), was born Claude-Alexandre Comte de Bonneval , at the castle of Bonneval in Coussac-Bonneval (Limousin), into a noble family distantly related to the Bourbons. At the age of thirteen, he entered the French navy and fought in several major sea battles. During the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–14) he served in Italy, but a financial affair ended his career abruptly.
