Abstract	:	Aksaray (Aq Sarāy in Arabic script) is a city in present-day central Turkey, south of Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake), and capital of the province (il) of the same name. The city occupies the site of a third millennium B.C.E. Hittite settlement known as Garsaoura. It was later renamed Archelais, in honour of the last king of Cappadocia, Archelaus (d. 17 C.E.). During the reign of the Selçuk (Saljūq) sultan İzzeddin Kılıç Arslan II (ʿIzz al-Dīn Qılıc Arslan II, r. 550–88/1155 or 1156–92),
