Abstract : Al-Aqṣā mosque (al-masjid al-Aqṣā) is located on the western side of the south end of al-Ḥaram al-Sharīf in Jerusalem. In its present form the hypostyle mosque comprises a prayer hall with seven aisles arranged perpendicular to the qibla wall (the south wall) and a portico to the north. The widened and elevated central nave of the prayer hall creates an axis running from the Aqṣā to the Dome of the Rock (Qubbat al-Ṣakhra) in the central zone of the Ḥaram. A monumental dome is
