Abstract : Ibn Abī l-Surūr al-Bakrī (998–c.1078/1589–c.1667) was the most important chronicler of early Ottoman Egypt down to the middle of the eleventh/seventeenth century. He was the son of Muḥammad Abū l-Surūr al-Bakrī (971–1007/1563 or 1564–99) and a grandson of Muḥammad b. Abī l-Ḥasan al-Bakrī (930–94/1524–86), who established the lineage of religious scholars known as al-sāda al-Bakriyya , the most influential lineage of Muslim religious scholars in Ottoman Egypt.
