Abū l-Walīd Sulaymān al-Bājī (d. 474/1081) was an important Andalusian traditionist, theologian, poet, and, above all, jurist, who acquired great intellectual authority. Abū l-Walīd Sulaymān b. Khalaf b. Saʿd b. Ayyūb b. Wārith al-Tujībī al-Bājī al-Qurṭubī al-Dhahabī was born on 15 Dhū l-Qaʿda 403/28 May 1013 in Badajoz, in southwestern Spain—less probably Bāja [Beja de Algarve], in southern Portugal—the home of his family, who later moved to Beja and then to Córdoba, where al-Bājī studied with several
