Abstract	:	Arsānyūs al-Fākhūrī (1800–83) was a Maronite cleric and qāḍī (judge) born in Baʿabdā in Mount Lebanon, known for composing badīʿiyyāt , works in a highly stylised poetic form that usually involves encomiums on the prophet Muḥammad, with each line of the poem illustrating a different rhetorical trope (badīʿ) ; al-Fākhūrī adapted the form to Christian religious themes. Born Fāris b. Yūsuf b. Ibrāhīm, al-Fākhūrī, a family so named because his great-grandfather oversaw Beirut’s pottery manufactories before moving to Baʿabdā, was educated at the seminary of ʿAyn
