ʿAlī al-Jārim (1881–1949) was an Egyptian poet, fiction writer, linguist, and pedagogue. He was born in Rashīd (Rosetta) to a learned father who was a sharīʿa judge. He studied at al-Azhar with Muḥammad ʿAbduh (d. 1905), the principal proponent of reformist Islam in Egypt, among others, and then at Dār al-ʿUlūm, the teachers’ college in Cairo.
