Abstract	:	Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ al-Mujīrī al-Mallawī (1088–1181/1677–1767) was a pre-eminent scholar of Ottoman Egypt. He wrote works on logic, rhetoric, and syntax that continued to be studied in Egyptian madrasa s well into the twentieth century. The attributive al-Mallawī (also al-Maylawī or al-Mallawānī) derives from the Middle Egyptian town of Mallawī (the vocalisation Mullawī, common in secondary literature, is incorrect). It is not clear whether al-Mallawī was born in the town or whether one of his ancestors hailed from
