Abū Aḥmad al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbdallāh b. Saʿīd al-ʿAskarī (293–382/906–93) was a prolific author and the leading scholar of his day in ḥadīth, lugha , and adab . A native of ʿAskar Mukram, in Khūzistān, he studied in Basra, Baghdad, and Isfahan with traditionists such as ʿAbdallāh b. Muḥammad al-Baghawī (d. 317/929) and Ibn Abī Dāwūd (d. 316/928, son of the Sunan author), the philologists Ibn Durayd (d. 321/933) and Nifṭawayh (d. 323/935), and the adīb Abū Bakr al-Ṣūlī (d. 335/946).
