Abstract : Abū l-Qāsim al-Ḥasan b. Bishr al-Āmidī (d. 370/980 or 371/981) was a secretary, grammarian, and poet, but is famous chiefly as a literary critic. He was a native of Basra, and the nature of his relationship with the city of Āmid (today's Diyarbakır, in Turkey), from which his name derives, is unclear. By the year 305/917 (the death date of his teacher al-Ḥāmiḍ) he had moved to Baghdad, where he studied with most of the famous grammarians and literary scholars of the
