Abstract	:	Ali Rıza Paşa (1276–1351/1860–1932) was born in Istanbul. His father Tahir Efendi was a retired gendarme major. Ali Rıza Paşa began his military career during the reign of Abdülhamid (ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd) II (r. 1293–1327/1876–1909), serving in a number of military and administrational positions. He was an Ottoman Field-Marshal who served as grand vezier, the Minister of War (Harbiye Nazırı) , of the Navy (Bahriye Nazırı) , of Public Works (Nafia Nazırı) , and of Internal Affairs (Dahiliye Nazırı) in the late Ottoman Empire.
