Surūr, al-Jamūʾiya, al-ʿAbbāsī al-Malikī, known as Shaykh Aḥmad al-Ṭayyib (1155–1239/1742–1824), was a Ṣūfī who introduced into Sudan circa 1178/1764 the Sammāniyya ṭarīqa (Ṣūfī “way”), a branch of the Khalwatiyya, itself a highly ramified and far-reaching Ṣūfī brotherhood founded in late eighth/fourteenth-century Tabriz.
