Abstract	:	Aḥmad Yār (1768–1845) was a Panjābī poet known for his narrative romances drawn from local, Islamic, and Indian sources. The dates generally accepted for his life (1768–1845) are based on his comment that he was seventy when he was commissioned to write the Shāhnāma-yi Ranjīt Singh in 1838, and on the year of his last work, Aḥsan al-qaṣaṣ , completed in 1842. Self-statements inserted into several of his poems confirm his birth in Islāmgaŕh, near Jalālpūr in District Gujrāt, and that the latter part of his
