Abstract : Anthologies were a wide-spread phenomenon in the Ottoman Empire. They are best known under the term mecmua ( mecmūʿa , lit. “manuscript of mixed content”; in modern Turkish the word is mostly used in the meaning of “periodical” or “magazine”). Other terms used in this respect are divan ( dīvān , exclusively for poetry), cönk (likewise, for poetry), sefine ( sefīne , lit. “boat”), müntehabat ( müntekhabāt , “selections”), and in modern times, when such works also began to be printed, antoloji and seçki . The term külliyat (küllīyāt) is also encountered in this context, which refers to
