Abstract	:	Turkish argot is a language variety which deviates from the standard (spoken) Turkish due to its distinct vocabulary, which includes conventional or metaphorical Turkish words and expressions along with borrowings from different languages, typically subject to semantic shifting. The acquired meanings are not comprehended by the Turkish speaking population outside the argot speaking community. Turkish argot has developed in Istanbul and has acquired a diatopic dimension.
