Abstract	:	Autobiography is generally referred to in contemporary Arabic technical use as sīra dhātiyya . This term was probably coined in Egypt, an early example of its use being Tarbiyat Salāma Mūsā (“The education of Salāma Mūsā,” Cairo 1947), the autobiography of the social reformer Salāma Mūsā (1887–1959), but the precise history of the term and its synonyms (e.g., tarjama dhātiyya ) has not yet been traced.
