Abstract : Lake Baikal (Russ. Ozero Baìkal) is a large freshwater lake in southeastern Siberia, fed by 564 tributaries and drained by the Angara River. Its most important affluent is the Selenga, which originates in Mongolia and provides the lake with nearly half of its riverine water. Lake Baikal is located in the taiga biome and has a length of 670 kilometres, a width of 80 kilometres, and a surface area of 31,500 square kilometres. With a maximum depth of 1637 metres and a water volume of 23,000 cubic kilometres,
