Abstract	:	Bakriyya is an unclear appellation that may refer to one of two different groups, both of which supported Abū Bakr’s claim to the caliphate. A third usage of the term is a conflation of these two groups, generically casting the Bakriyya as promoters of Abū Bakr’s right to succession.
