Abstract	:	Mahmut Esat (Maḥmūd Esʿad) Bozkurt (1892–1943), a Turkish politician, minister of justice, and teacher of law, was born in Kuşadası, on the Aegean coast of present-day Turkey. His father was Hacı Mahmutzade Hasan (Ḥāccı Maḥmūd-zāde Ḥasan), a landowner and businessman who was also a member of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP). Hasan Bey represented Kuşadası on the General Council of Aydın Province (Aydın Vilayeti Meclis-i Umumisi) after 1914, and he also helped establish the Milli Aydın Bank in the same year.
