Abstract	:	Chanak Crisis is the name given to the contest in September-October 1922 between Britain’s prime minister and wartime leader Lloyd George (d. 1945) and Mustafa Kemal (later Atatürk, d. 1938), the leader of Turkish nationalists. Having defeated the Greeks in Anatolia and entered Izmir (Smyrna) on 9 September, Mustafa Kemal wanted to complete the task he had set for himself of regaining for the Turkish state Istanbul and eastern Thrace up to its 1914 frontier. Lloyd George, on the other hand, sought to retain control of the Straits
