Ṣādiq Chūbak (b. 5 August 1916, in Bushihr. Iran; d. 3 July 1998, in Berkeley, California), one of the most important Persian writers of the twentieth century, published four collections of short stories: Khayma shab bāzī (“The puppet show”), Antarī ki lūṭī-ash murda būd (“The baboon whose buffoon was dead”), Rūz-i avval-i qabr (“The first day in the grave”), and Chirāgh-i ākhir (“The last lamp”). He wrote two plays, Tūp-i lāstīkī (“The rubber ball,” published in Antarī ki lūṭī-ash murda būd ), and Hafkhaṭ (“Sly,”
