Abstract	:	The religious doctrine (madhhab) of the Druzes (Durūz) is an offshoot of Shīʿī-Ismāʿīlī doctrine that developed during the fourth/tenth century, when the Ismāʿīlīs established the Fāṭimid state in Tunisia and then conquered Egypt, in 359/969. Most of the classical Sunnī theologians and chroniclers have classified the Druze faith with the al-bāṭiniyya or the Shīʿī ghulāt (extremists) sects, who use taʾwīl (interpretation) to reach the bāṭin (inner meaning) of the Qurʾānic verses.
