Fener (Fanār; Gr. Phanarion) is a district in Istanbul, which today forms part of the city’s Fatih Municipality. It is located on the western shore of the Golden Horn, opposite Kasımpaşa, with Balat to the north, Fatih to the west, and Yavuz Sultan Selim and Cibali to the south. Throughout the Ottoman period and into the Turkish Republican era, it was a predominantly Greek-populated area.
