Gazi Hüsrev Bey (Ghāzī Khüsrev Beg, 885–948/1480–1541) served as governor of Bosnia for much of the period between 927/1521 and 948/1541. During his governorship, he established a vakıf ( waqf , pious foundation) that played an important role in Sarajevo’s economic and social development. Hüsrev Bey was born in Serres (Macedonia), in 885/1480, and his mother, Selçuk (Selçūq, d. 1485/890), was a daughter of Bayezid (Bāyezīd) II (r. 886–918/1481–1512).
