İsmail Gelenbevi (Gelenbevī, Ismāʿīl b. Muṣṭafā b. Maḥmūd, 1143–1205/1730–91, also known as Kalanbawī in Western literature) was a prominent Ottoman logician, philosopher, theologian, astronomer, and mathematician born in Gelenbe, a small town in western Anatolia (present-day Turkey). He moved to Istanbul to complete his education under Yasincizade Osman (Yāsīncīzāde ʿUthmān) and especially under Müftizade Mehmed Emin (Müftīzāde Meḥmed Emīn), who was nicknamed ayaklı kütüphane (“walking library”).
