Abstract	:	Ghiyāth al-Dīn Tughluq Shāh I ruled as sultan of Delhi for less than five years, from 720/1320 to 724/1324. He rose to prominence during the reign of ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Khaljī (r. 695–715/1296–1316), playing an important role as a military commander in western Panjāb. His reign was relatively short, before his accidental death in 724/1324, but his rule returned stability to the Delhi Sultanate following a period of dynastic-succession strife under the last Khaljī sultans.
