Abstract	:	Gümülcineli Ahmed Asım Efendi (1836–1906) was an Ottoman scholar of religious teaching. He was born in 1836–7, in the village of Terziviran, in Gümülcine (present-day Komotini, in Greece), in the province of Edirne (Adrianople). His father, Müderriszade Mehmed (Müderriszāde Meḥmed), was a scholar of religious teaching at the local medrese (madrasa) in Terziviran. Having received his early education in his village, Ahmed Asım went to the imperial capital in 1848. He obtained his authorisation (icazet) from the well-known scholar Karinabadi Abdurrahman (Kārīnābādi ʿAbd al-Raḥmān) Efendi
